Hairspray

Hairspray is set in 1962 Baltimore, Maryland, and follows Tracy Turnblad, a plump teenager with a big heart and a passion for dancing.

Synopsis

After winning a spot on a local TV dance program, The Corny Collins Show, Tracy becomes an overnight celebrity.

She then uses her newfound fame to advocate for racial integration on the show, challenging the social prejudices of the era.

Along the way, Tracy’s efforts to change the world are met with resistance but ultimately lead to significant social progress within her community.

The musical addresses issues of racism and body image, wrapped in a lively and uplifting score that reflects the dance music and rhythm and blues of the 1960s.

Hairspray is celebrated for its energetic dance numbers, catchy songs, and poignant message of acceptance and equality.
